Nachdem ich ja schon in den letzten Beiträgen immer etwas darüber berichtet habe was so am Rand passiert ist, will ich mich nun auf die Bohrungen etwas beschränken. In den Wochen oder mittlerweile schon Monaten bevor es überhaupt losging haben wir ja durch die Kartierungen, den Straßenbau und noch andere Aktionen etwas Einblick in die Geologie an der Oberfläche bekommen. Daraus entstanden dann ein paar Interpretationen. Zusätzlich wurden auch noch Geophysiker damit beauftragt ein Computermodell zu generieren welches der Anomalie, basierend auf verschiedenen Genesemodellen, folgt. Diese ganzen Interpretationen waren dann in den Bohrprofielen wieder zu finden. Das hilft natürlich während dem Bohren dann zu entscheiden ob man noch tiefer vordringen sollte oder wo und mit welchem Winkel man überhaupt anfängt. Ich hatte ja im Gelände schon ein eher ungutes Gefühl weil die Mächtigkeit der sichtbaren BIF Schicht meistens nicht mehr als 10m war. Mir wurde aber viel von versteckten Kontakten und sonst was erzählt. Für mich sah das nicht so aus weil man im Boden daneben doch recht schnell die verdächtigen Muskovit Blättchen finden konnte. Wie dem auch sei die ersten zwei Löcher waren eher ernüchternd. Beim dritten kam dann eine neue Theorie auf von einer mächtigen aber plötzlich im Gegensatz zu all dem Aufschluss ganz flach liegenden Schicht. Diese wurde auch schnell wieder verworfen. Evtl. wären es zwei parallele Schichten gewesen doch zu viel Grundwasser machte dem Bohrer zu schaffen. Am Ende sah es doch nicht so viel besser aus wie der Aufschluss im Gelände schon vermuten ließ.
After I already talked about what was happening on the side in my last posts, I will focus on the actual drilling with this small article. During the mapping, dozing and other activities we collected information about the geology along the surface. From this we compiled different interpretations of the ore body. Additionally geophysicists created a computer model according to the magnetic anomaly with respect to different genesis models. All of these interpretations were visible on the different drilling sections. That made it easier to decide where to start drilling at what angle and up to which depth it might be interesting to test. Personally I didn’t have a good feeling about the thickness of the BIF layers after I’ve seen them in several outcrops during the mapping, most of the time they were about 10m thick. However apparently it can happen that the actual contact is hidden due to weathering. If only the white Muscovite flakes wouldn’t have been there. Well when we started drilling the first two holes were kind of disappointing. After the third a new theory started to evolve which was kind of the opposite of what could be seen on the surface. A thick flat lying layer was proposed but also quickly pushed aside again. Maybe there were two parallel steep dipping layers but too much ground water didn’t permit the driller to push further. At the end it didn’t look much better than what we already suspected from the outcrops.
Nach dem Gewaltausbruch verlegten wir das Bohrgerät in die benachbarte Provinz. Alles kam aber nur langsam ins Rollen. Die Plattform hatte Probleme mit dem Antrieb und mit Müh und Not kam sie den Berg hinauf. In der folgenden Nachschicht bohrte ich von S nach N mit -50° auf eine fast senkrecht stehende Schicht zu. Zumindest sah sie im Aufschluss, der vielleicht 20m entfernt war, so aus. Wir hatten auch ein ganz nettes Eisenerz Interfall in unseren Chips. Normalerweise würde man danach ja aufhören, aber ich wollte wissen ob vielleicht wie im letzten Gebiet eine zweite Schicht folgt. Dies war aber nach weiteren 20m nicht der Fall und mit so viel Abraum dazwischen wird es auch immer weniger interessant. Mit einem zweiten Loch bei -60° und etwas weiter weg vom Aufschluss wollte ich die Schicht noch einmal treffen um den Winkel zu bestätigen und zu prüfen ob sie tiefer auch noch vorhanden war. Aber wieder Enttäuschung. Entweder ist sie gefaltet, hört einfach auf oder ist durch das Intrusivmaterial ersetzt worden. Nicht so schlimm, weiter im Westen sieht es vielversprechender aus. Leider bekam die Plattform beim nächsten Hügel wieder Probleme und wir warten wieder auf Ersatzteile.
After the violent escalation we moved the whole rig and equipment to the neighbouring county. Everything started up pretty slowly again and after the rig had problems with one of its tracks it just made it up a small hill again. In the following night shift I drilled from S to N with -50° about 20m away from the outcrop. We hit a nice iron ore interval and I pushed through a bit further just to see if we would get a second layer like in the other area. But after another 20m we still only drilled through intrusives so I decided to do another hole at -60° just to see how it would look like at greater depth. However we only drilled through intrusives all the way. Since there is no point to drill all the way to China and there were only a few possibilities left like folded thinner layers than expected from the first hole or the layers were just stopping either naturally or because they have been replaced by the intrusives, I also stopped that hole right at the end of my shift. After that the rig showed the same track problem on the next hill again and we are waiting for parts at the moment.
