Thunderstorm

Thunderstorm

While waiting for a spare part for the rig. More precisely a drill bit. We had a nice thunder storm tonight. The first big one since months. I was able to capture a nice bolt however it doesn’t even come close to what you were able to observe all over the sky. Lightning fingering in all directions between clouds and also down to the surface. Heavy rain of course as well.

Thunderstorm [1]

Maybe even the heavens were fed up with all the jokes from the local guys. Every day there is another “meeting” with some wankers who want money but of course they never say so. It is always nicely concealed behind things like you don’t comply with the labour law, you don’t do that, where is this and that? However things seem to change a bit in our favour. A few days ago we had the pleasure with the local council again. They were coming out to the rig inspecting whether we were stealing their diamonds, gold, oil and whatever else. On the next day we got a letter requesting us to cease our illegal mining operation. Well on that day however one of our workers joined the scene. He was actually the son of the chairman of the council. He spoke up and said to his dad that if he would shut us down he would lose his job and he would coming for him, what basically means he would hunt him down. That moment actually casted a smile on most of our faces.

Many people here are badly informed by the ministry. They don’t know the difference between mining and exploration. They also think we are going to steal the iron ore over night or find diamonds, gold and oil on top of a small hill. You can’t reason with them because they don’t listen to facts like that there are no rocks for oil around and they also can’t come up with a point on why nobody else mines the blue diamonds in the area if they all think they are there. In the end it doesn’t help. Our joker is to finish the job in this county before the noise gets too load and just move to the next county or that the people we employ actually take a stand on our side like the son against his father. Maybe if the trouble gets too big we might even consider to fire back. When we commenced drilling we asked the people from the council to look for 12 workers for us. We wanted to make it fair because that was a point with the earlier work. We didn’t want to take the same people again and everyone should have the same chance to get some work. However during the process it turned out that they sold all the places on the list to their own people. However paid most got the first slot on the list…
